Looking to set up a passive income side hustle? I use the term passive income in the sense that your compensation is not necessarily dependent on you being someplace for a certain number of hours – where you are trading hours-for-dollars. Don’t get me wrong – setting up a passive income side hustle can take a lot of time and energy for sure! But if you put in that time and energy on the front-end you should be able to grow the income and reap significant rewards down the line.
Passive Income can be a powerful source of income and very liberating! Imagine making money when you are sleeping or even on vacation. However, most passive income endeavors take either a lot of cash to set up (think real estate) OR a lot of time and energy up front to set up (think blogging or vlogging). In addition to the initial time to set things up – there will be some maintenance time required and it is many times like planting a tree – where the time to build the recognition and presence to something significant may take years. So the sooner you start the better!
The Blog Income Project is the chronicle my journey of building some passive income streams related to blogging, affiliate marketing & various other methods of transacting business online (like Merch by Amazon, etc). Here I document what I learn, my failures & successes, my strategies, the resources & tools I use and pretty much anything else related to my goal of building a portfolio of passive income sites & businesses.
May 25th, 2021: Below, is my original post from January 1st, 2020. 2020 was a challenging year filled with a lot of uncertainty for most of us. As such – I found myself pulled in a lot of different directions – and was NOT able to achieve my goal. However, I continue to plod along – albeit – at a somewhat slower pace. I am still learning and building – and expect to try the one-year challenge again in the future – maybe with the assistance of one or more of the kids. In the mean time – I have decided to shift gears a little bit and make this more of blogger toolkit and resource website. I will continue to build this as I grow and learn – still working toward my original goal of being able to build a $1,000 / month income niche website in a single year from scratch.

This is a blog devoted to chronicling my 1 year goal to build an $1,000 / month income-producing niche blog. I won’t be revealing what that site is until the one year is up.
Why? – because I want to build this niche website from scratch, without cross-traffic from either this site or my personal blog. I am hoping to build a process that I can document, refine and repeat – with the eventual goal of then packaging that knowledge and process as a product that can be sold as a course.
This is about the JOURNEY and what I have to do to achieve my goal!
By way of background – I am a married man with 4 children, ages 10 and younger, as I embark on this journey. I have a personal blog that I have been doing for just a little over a year as my family’s virtual scrapbook. So I have a little familiarity with WordPress and blogging in general. This will be my first attempt at creating a niche blog / website.
The project website is a hobby based blog. We have no real familiarity with the hobby as we begin this journey on January 1st, 2020, and the hobby is somewhat technical in nature. So we will be learning as we go along.
I think in many ways our unfamiliarity with the hobby will be a benefit in this process – as we will be looking at this all through the newcomers’ eyes – and asking all the questions that others starting with this hobby are likely to ask as well.

My name is Chip. When my oldest daughter Gracie (future engineer / inventor) was just 9 years old she began bugging me for a 3D printer. After about a year I finally relented and we took the plunge and bought one.
Since then, we have been immersing ourselves in this fascinating new hobby! We are learning as we go along – and here we share our successes, failures, & experiences!
My name is Chip Williamson and I have done some pretty epic Easter egg hunts for my four kids over the years! Slowly these hunts morphed from just Easter egg hunts to full-out treasure hunts where I also tried to teach the kids something and encourage them to become more proficient with technology.
I found myself spending WAY too much time every year developing these treasure hunts! Usually, I invested something in excess of 20 hours into each hunt. Each year I try to change up the hunt and keep it challenging and fun for the kids while I feature a different theme & technology.
